Connecting Donegal's rural communities

A rural Donegal community, where mobile and TV signal are unavailable, have come together to “take a step into the 21st century.”

The remote and isolated area of Kinnego Bay in the Mossy Glen area of Inishowen were recently connected to a 50Mbit Next Generation broadband service after coming together as a community to make the project happen.

The project was carried out at part of the Government's on-going Rural Broadband Scheme and was facilitated by Bluebox Broadband, with the community engaging directly with Government departments to deliver the high-speed service in a short time frame.

Scott McClelland, managing director of Bluebox Broadband, said: “It was a pleasure dealing with the community group and we look forward to delivering the residents a high speed broadband service for many years to come, and would like to take the opportunity to thank the community organisers who played a vital role in liaising with us and making it happen.”

As of June 1, the company have also helped get the Inishowen area of Glengad connected to Next Generation broadband. They added they would welcome similar initiatives for other communities across Donegal.
