Fr Eugene Boland, the Donegal priest who is facing a number of indecent assault charges has been granted a two week adjornment of his hearing in court.

Fr Boland, originally from Moville, whose address was listed in court as being Parochial House, Killclogher, Co Tyrone is facing four charges of Indecent Assault against a girl on dates unknown between June 28, 1990, and June 30, 1992. According to court documents, the alleged incidents took place in Derry.

Fr Boland appearing at Derry Magistrates Court today for a preliminary enquiry into the indecent assault allegations.

In August 2010, the 65 year-old priest told parishioners in Killyclogher that he was taking administrative leave.

Fr Boland told the congregation he was facing a “personal crisis” but declined to give further details.
In a statement at the time, the now-retired Bishop of Derry Seamus Hegarty said a priest had “requested and been granted administrative leave while an issue of safeguarding is being processed”.

Bishop Hegarty said the safety and welfare of children was and would continue to be of paramount concern to the diocese. “It would be inappropriate to comment any further. While this process is ongoing, the priest is entitled to the benefit of a presumption of innocence,” he added.

Fr Boland is a native of Moville and was ordained in St Pius X Church there in 1973.
