Senator Jimmy Harte has welcomed news that the North West Simon Community in Donegal is due to receive funding as part of the 2012 UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty programme.
In total, €30,000 will be distributed to community groups across Ireland, with the North West Community in Letterkenny due to receive €1,500.
The Annual United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is a day to express friendship and solidarity with people who have to live with poverty and social exclusion every day of the year, in Ireland, Europe and around the world.
The funding approved by Minister Joan Burton said: “I am delighted to make this funding available to the twelve community groups around the country to help raise awareness of poverty and social exclusion through their work. All of these groups have planned very interesting and thoughtful projects to mark the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.”
