The Central Statistics Office recently released the new crime figures for 2011, and it shows that Letterkenny’s Garda Station dealt with a total of 2,006 offences committed.

The majority of those being Public Order and other Social Code Offences, with a whopping 610 incidents dealt with in the recorded period.

Buncrana station came in second place for total number of offences committed, with 505; Ballybofey came in third with 433; whilst Bundoran had 293.

Doochary station, which was closed this year, recorded the largest percentage increase of incidents, with 58.8% more in 2011 than 2010. However, it should be noted that the total number of incidents for 2011 was 17, and 2010 was 7.

Controlled drug offences committed saw the largest percentage increase countywide. Donegal town was the largest exception to this, as it saw numbers drop from 2010’s 20 offences, to 2011’s 3.

Overall figures for total offences dropped in 28 of the 45 stations that took part in the study. Letterkenny; the station with the largest number of incidents; had a 5.3% increase in 2011.

The areas that showed increases were mainly stations in close proximity of the UK border.
