Inishowen trio The Henry Girls celebrate the success of their critically acclaimed new album December Moon with a special concert at An Grianán Theatre this Saturday 4th February.

‘December Moon’ is their fourth album to date and was produced by Calum Malcolm (Blue Nile, Heidi Talbot) and features many of the North West’s finest musicians including Ted Ponsonby, Nicky Scott, and Liam Bradley. The album is already winning them new fans with Irish Music Magazine declaring that “The Henry Girls have finally found their voice and what a happy voice it is…..their original songs have the potential to have a very long life beyond the album.  December Moon the title track could be the Galway Girl of 2012.”

Sisters Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin are from Malin and have been playing together as The Henry Girls for more than a decade. They have become one of the most talked about folk/roots acts to come out of Ireland and within a few years have developed a growing international profile in Europe, North America and further afield. They have a unique sound which blends classic Traditional Irish Folk music with a hint of Americana, a nod to bluegrass and much more besides. Their repertoire includes rediscovered treasures and original songs which are instant classics.

Renowned for their close harmonies and musical arrangements, the Henry Girls have been likened to many other harmonising siblings such as The McGarrigle Sisters, The Andrews Sisters and The Everly Brothers. Their sound also reflects the influences of such great musical acts as Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Dixie Chicks, The Be Good Tanyas, The Indigo Girls and Alison Krauss.

They recently appeared as guest backing vocalists on Mary Black‘s new album ‘Stories from the Steeples’ and one of the songs they appear on is a duet with the fabulous Imelda May (see www.mary-black.net).  They will be touring Germany extensively in March 2012 as part of the Irish Spring Tour.

They have also worked and collaborated with Irish and International acts such as Donal Lunny, Liam O’Maonlai, Moya Brennan, Larry John McNally, Jennifer Kimball; Session Americana and The Fox Hunt as well as touring nationally and internationally for many years at festivals and venues such as Milwaukee Irish Fest, The Old Town School of Folk, Chicago; Mountain Stage Radio live Broadcast, West Virginia; Celtic Connections, Glasgow.

For this special December Moon concert they will be joined by some of the brilliant local musicians who helped them record it. Tickets are only €12 and can be purchased at An Grianán Theatre’s box office on 074 912 0777.
