Hundreds of Ulster Bank customers in Donegal have been affected by a technical fault that has seen a failure of automated salary payments, and social welfare benefits to be received.

The fault, which was brought to light yesterday, is thought to have affected transactions throughout the bank, including its online banking services, which are still being serviced.

The bank’s Irish website issues the statement: “We are experiencing some technical issues which means balances are not up to date & some of our services are unavailable. We have identified the problem and are working to have it resolved as soon as possible. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”

Aside from the aforementioned statement, the bank has not commented upon the problem. Leaving many customers worried that payments and Direct Debits will not come out on time.

It is believed that the effected transactions will be processed with a delay of a day or two, however this has not been confirmed.

The Department of Social Protection said it was aware of the problem, and that people expecting social welfare payments who are affected are being dealt with.
