The countdown is on to this year’s annual Glencolmcille Agricultural Show, which takes place this Saturday.
Following the success of the last four years since the show was revived in 2010, this year’s event has the biggest entries ever. Organisers are confident the now well-established event will attract a large number of visitors, acting as a curtain raiser for the annual Féile Gleann Cholm Cille.
The show was originally started by local priest and community activist Fr James McDyer in 1954, but fell by the wayside in the late 1960s.
The day begins at 9am and will feature craft and produce, cattle, sheep and poultry shows with sheep shearing, bouncy castle and tug-o’-war. The show dance will take place at 10pm when the 2014 Show Queen will be selected.
Don’t forget that the Glencolmcille Sheepdog Trials take place next Sunday, August 10!
