AWARE, is seeking applications from persons interested in being trained as volunteer support group facilitators for its support group based at Pearse Road, Letterkenny. AWARE is a charity that is to the forefront of mental health support, information and education.
The purpose of a support group is to offer peer to peer support to persons with anxiety, stress, depression and other mood disorders. It is estimated that one in ten people in Ireland experience depression at any one time and getting support can be beneficial. Support groups offer people a space to talk through particular concerns and explore options available to them.
Each support group is facilitated by two trained volunteers. Twenty one hours of initial training is provided to the facilitators.
A commitment of 18 months is required by those interested in becoming Facilitators. The Letterkenny group meet every Tuesday at 8pm.
