This Saturday, August 30th, six brothers and six sisters will reunite to climb Mount Errigal with the proceeds going to the Alzheimer Social Club, Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny.
The Donegal Alzheimer's Society is a cause very close to the heart of Joan Boyle Rodgers and her 11 siblings as their mother Ethna has been diagnosed with alzheimer's for the past four years.
They decided to take on the climb as a family a couple of months ago and there are mixed emotions amongst the siblings on the task ahead.
While some of them have climbed Mount Errigal before, this is the first time they have done so as a family, and there are two brothers coming home from England and another two from Scotland especially to participate in the climb.
The large group of siblings have received great support and sponsorship from friends and family so far with many people thinking it a novelty that so many from the same family are taking Mount Errigal on. Joan said she believes the large number of siblings participating at once is 'unusual'.
The group is made up of Brendan, Paddy, Marty, Peter, Angeline, Lorraine, Jemmy, Joan, Rosaleen, Bella-Marie, Manny, and Helena.
The group of siblings are hoping to get their climb underway from 12.00pm on Saturday, donations for this worthy climb can be made online to http://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/31768_donegal-alzheimer-errigal-climb.html. Donating is open until September 30th.
