Bosco Productions are bringing the popular High School Musical On Stage! to Donegal Town.
Directed by Berni Canny and Ultan Pringle and with Karen McCrudden as musical director, the show is based on the popular Disney Channel movie High School Musical.
A cast of 38 young people ranging in age from 11 to 18 have been rehearsing since the first week of July.
Mrs Canny said: “They are such dedicated kids to give up their holidays. The are a great bunch and it is a joy to work with such talent and commitment.”
High School Musical On Stage! tells the story of two teenagers, Troy Bolton played by Jack Lennox and Gabriella Montez played by Jennifer Martin. The pair meet while singing karaoke at a New Year’s Eve party but don’t expect to see each other again.
However a work transfer for Gabriella’s mother means the teenagers end up at the same school, East High in New Mexico.
They come from very different social groups within the school. Troy is a basketball player while Gabriella is  a bright academic.  But they become friends and accidently audition for the school musical.
When they get a callback, the school social order is rocked. Troy’s friends fear the basketball team will suffer. Gabriella’s friends don’t approve  either, wanting her to focus her attention on taking part in an academic decathlon.
As if that wasn't enough to contend with, the school’s existing musical theatre stars Sharpay Evans and her brother Ryan are also enraged. They see that the newcomers are a serious threat. Devious Sharpay and Ryan will do whatever it takes to avoid losing their crowns to these new rivals.
With so many people against them, Troy and Gabriella have to face many challenges. Will they make the cut in musical theatre? Can their friendship survive? And most importantly, will their own friends accept the changes this will surely bring?
