The official unveiling of the new Letterkenny Town Clock will take place tomorrow, Saturday.

The new Town Clock will be unveiled by Mayor of Letterkenny Paschal Blake.

In conjunction with the launch of the Town Clock a Family Fun Day has been organised, beginning at 3.00pm. The Town Clock will be unveiled at 4.30pm.

The Letterkenny Senior Accordian Band will lead a short procession up the Port Road to An Grianán Theatre, where the festivities will then get underway.

Mayor Blake made the creation of a plaza area outside the theatre and the Town Clock his project for 2014 after he was approached by Anne McGowan, Chairperson of An Grianán Theatre to consider such a project.

The centrepiece of the revamped plaza area is the Town Clock - made from steel, the design is in keeping with modern style. The clock was constructed by father and son team Paul and Christopher Hynd from Joe Bonnar Metalcraft Ltd.

The project focused on getting as many local people and local businesses involved as possible. Anne McKeever and Clare McDonough from La Maison Interior Design gave advice on the colour scheme under Letterkenny Tidy Town’s ‘Paint the Town’ initiative, Dulux and Foy’s of Letterkenny then donated paint for the theatre’s façade.

New paving, trees, benches, and a new lighting scheme were also incorporated with the help of local businesses.

The resources for the project came from Mayor Blake’s own funds, as well as from contributions from the Community Development Fund and Letterkenny Town Council. An Grianán Theatre also made a significant contribution.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event.
