RTE’s Eco-Eco presenter Duncan Stewart was in Letterkenny this week and was particularly impressed by some local students.

The environmentalist was in the town to host An Taisce’s ‘Think Global, Act Local’ event, but once he heard about Errigal College’s ‘Bottle it: Reuse and Refill’ project, he visited the school to see for himself.

Mrs Caitriona Hasson’s Transition Year class were delighted that their project was receiving approval from one of Ireland’s best-known and most committed champions of protecting the world.

He watched the video the Errigal College students had made, and then they made a presentation of the frightening statistics, and their ideas on tackling the problem of single-use plastic.

Mr Stewart told the students they “are the teachers. You are the future. You have to get your ideas out there, because you are the ones that will have to clean up my generation’s mess!”

After the presentation he told Mrs Hasson that he was “really impressed” at their research and the ideas they have.
