This year’s Credit Union Primary School Quiz saw the biggest number of entries to date.

Pupils from Ballintra to Inver and out to Barnesmore gathered in the Abbey Hotel on Monday evening for the much-anticipated quiz.

It was a close contest with all of the pupils representing themselves and their schools very well. The young quizzers demonstrated a wealth of knowledge in everything from local geography to nicknames of past American Presidents.

In a tense finish, there was a tie for third place between St Peter’s NS and St Ernan’s NS in the U13 category. After six tie-break questions, St Ernan’s edged ahead to take the third place trophy.

Second place went to Scoil an Linbh Íosa with Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala winning the category.

In the U11 category, third place went to Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala. St  Ernan’s NS was second and taking first place was St Francis NS.

Gabriel O’Donnell from Donegal Town Credit Union thanked those present for their participation. He also thanked parents and teachers for supporting the event year after year.

He had a word of thanks too for the team at the Abbey Hotel as well his Credit Union colleagues, including Quiz Master Joe Gillespie.

Mr O’Donnell told the children: “Like the Olympics, it is not all about winning, it is about taking part.”

There were refreshments for everyone afterwards. All in all it was a great evening for children and their families in the Donegal Town Credit Union area.

The winning teams in each category will go through to the county final next month.
