Red Hughs' dream of reaching an AIB All-Ireland Club Junior Football Championship Final is over.

This afternoon they lost out in the semi-final as they went down by 1-8 to 0-9 against Sligo and Connacht champions, Easkey, in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.

Easkey had the edge in the first-half and led by 0-7 to 0-3.

Darren Browne got all three of Red Hughs' points in the first half, all from frees.

The Killygordon side had a good spell early in the second half and reduced the arrears with two points to leave them trailing by 0-7 to 0-5.

Calvin Bradley hit the uproght and Browne missed the opportunity to score from a free.

Crucially, though, Easkey struck with a goal from James Lindsay to push the Sligo side into a 1-7 to 0-5 lead.

Red Hughs pulled one back but Easkey then responded at the other end to make it 1-8 to 0-6 and the Finn Valley club was left with a mountain to climb.

Five minutes additional time was played at the end, and Damien Browne brought his tally to six with another free, to leave them trailing by 1-8 to 0-7.

Johnny Carlin then got a score to reduced the gap to three points and suddenly there was some hope for Red Hughs, and they tagged on another score through Gallen but it was too little, too late.

Red Hughs gave it their all but ultimately Easkey had the slight edge - and the goal was vital - and they probably deserved to progress to their first ever All-Ireland Club Junior Football Championship Final.

In the other semi-final Louth and Leinster champions Dundalk Young Irelands played Beaufort, the Kerry and Munster champions.

Beaufort won by 0-12 to 0-10.

This mean that the final will be between Easkey and Beaufort.
