Declan Bonner's Donegal have topped Section A in the Bank of Ireland Dr McKenna Cup.
Tonight they defeated Cavan by 1-20 to 1-12 at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey to make it three wins from three.
This win puts them into the semi-finals and that means they will be out again on Sunday.
Donegal were never behind in this game and began positively as they moved into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead with less than ten minutes on the stopwatch.
However, Cavan, who will be playing in Division One of the Allianz National Football League this season, stormed back to level the scores at four apiece after 16 minutes.
But Donegal responded again and at half-time led by 0-10 to 0-6. Michael Langan got six of the points in the first half.
Donegal continued to hold the upper hand in the second half and the green flag was raised in 57th minute when Jamie Brennan found the back of the net to make it 1-16 to 0-9.
Cavan did pull a goal back in the closing stages but it was too little, too late.
In the end, Donegal, the holders, won by eight points.
Also in Section A, Down hammered Queen's University by 4-18 to 1-5.
Elsewhere, Armagh beat Monaghan by 0-13 to 1-9 in Section B. Antrim beat St. Mary's 1-14 to 0-9.
In Section C, Tyrone defeated Fermanagh 0-10 to 0-4 while Derry beat Ulster University 1-20 to 0-7.
