Donegal were beaten by Tyrone in their TG4 All-Ireland Ladies SFC Group 4 game at TEG Cusack Park in Mullingar on Saturday afternoon.
If finished Tyrone 3-12, Donegal 3-9.
Donegal were favourites going into the game against a Tyrone side that had lost to Mayo the previous week.
But Tyrone, the intermediate champions, were good value for their victory.
They surged into an early 1-3 to no score lead with Maria Canavan getting the first point and Chloe McCaffrey scoring the first goal.
And by the break they led 1-6 to 1-4 with Geraldine McLaughlin hauling Donegal back into the game with a goal.
However, two goals at the start of the second half from Maeve Mallon and Niamh Hughes propelled Tyrone into a big 3-6 to 1-5 lead.
Donegal kept battling and Geraldine McLaughlin pulled a goal back.
But they were always chasing the game and although McLaughlin got a late penalty for Donegal, it was too little, too late.
This result in the three team group means that it all boils down to the final game.
Donegal now face a Mayo side who have already beaten Tyrone.
The top two teams progress while the bottom side goes into a relegation play-off.
