Gaoth Dobhair’s Odhran MacNiallais will not feature for Donegal in the championship this summer.

The 26-year-old confirmed his intentions over the weekend.

Having been a major player in Gaoth Dobhair’s double winning side – and helping them to reach the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Club SFC – he took some time off before the start of the All-County League campaign.

Yesterday, he told Highland Radio that he had spoken with Donegal boss Declan Bonner and told him he did not wish to be involved this summer.

And he added: "I just have no real interest in football at the minute to be honest. The last few weeks, even training with the club, I haven't really enjoyed it.

"I just don't have the hunger and the desire there to give the commitment to Donegal. I explained that to Declan last week. He was very good about it.”

Donegal will begin the defence of the Ulster title with a clash against Fermanagh – the side they beat in last year’s provincial decider – on May 26th at Brewster Park in Enniskillen.
