Donegal have been dealt a massive blow ahead of the Allianz National Football League campaign which starts at the end of the month.

The hugely influential Michael Murphy is set to miss the opening rounds, having undergone knee surgery.

According to the Daily Star, Murphy came through the  operation last week.

Donegal open their Division Two account with a potentially tricky trip to Ennis to face Clare.

Meanwhile, on a more positive note, it has also emerged that Ryan McHugh could return to action for tomorrow evening's Section A Dr. McKenna Cup game against Cavan in Ballybofey.

McHugh has been out of action since suffering concussion in a challenge game last year.
