Former Donegal senior football team manager Rory Gallagher has a new post.

He has been appointed as manager of the Fermanagh senior football team.

In a short statement posted on its facebook page, the Fermanagh GAA Co. Board said: "We are pleased to announce Rory Gallagher has been ratified as our new Senior Football manager. More details to follow......"

It is understood that former Tyrone star Ryan McMenamin is part of the new backroom team.

The news will come as a surprise to some.

A native of Fermanagh, Gallagher played for both Fermanagh and Cavan at inter-county level.

He was number two to Jim McGuinness when Donegal won the All-Ireland SFC title in 2012.

He became Donegal manager in 2014.

He stood down from the Donegal job at the end of July.

Meanwhile, the Donegal Co. Board has still to announce who the new manager will be.

Declan Bonner, Sean Paul Barrett and Cathal Corey have all been interviewed.
