The hospital beds crisis is continuing at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Earlier today (Thursday), there were still a total of 25 patients on trolleys - a marginal improvement in a week that has seen record numbers on trolleys.

On Tuesday, there were 31 people on trolleys in corridors or wards.

On Wednesday, the total figure was 27.

Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation report that there were 16 people on trolleys awaiting admission to wards this morning with a further nine on trolleys in wards awaiting normal bed spaces.

At Sligo General Hospital, which caters for the south of the county, there were six people on trolleys earlier today, down from a total of seven yesterday and 16 on Tuesday.

Nationally, there was an all-time high of 603 people on trolleys on Tuesday – on Wednesday the figure dropped to 584, and today it was down to 371.
