Letterkenny General Hospital’s is bursting at the seams.

A total of 27 patients were on trolleys or could not be accommodated in wards this morning, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Each morning it issues an overview of the problems being experience in hospitals around the country.

And Lettterkenny is amongst the hospitals with the worst figures.

The survey revealed that there were 12 patients on trolleys in the Accident and Emergency Department which is operating at a reduced capacity following the flooding in the new building last summer.

With wards full, the patients must wait on trolleys.

Meanwhile, some patients are also being accommodated in corridors and outside a number of wards.

According to the INMO a total of 15 people were unable to get into wards.

“These people could be on trolleys or even chairs or are in an inappropriate area rather than being in a proper ward as the ward is full,” a spokesperson for the INMO explained.
