Over the past two years, Relay for Life in Donegal has proudly assisted the Irish Cancer Society in the fight against Cancer with the support, passion and relentless dedication of the Relay for Life teams and participants. They have helped to inform, educate and raise vital funds not just for Cancer Research but all for many ongoing support Initiatives the Irish Cancer Society provides in Co Donegal and indeed across the entire country.
Relay for Life is a 24 hour, overnight community celebration and a very unique and inspirational event. At the heart of Relay is the opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors and also to remember those that have not survived. One such family remembering those who have not survived is Bernie and Alan McIntyre. Bernie and Alan’s daughter Aimee McIntyre lost her very brave battle for life to an inoperable brain tumour almost 6 years ago.
Bernie participated in the Relay for Life last year as a team member of a friend’s team and she explained the experience for her as “a great opportunity to celebrate her daughter Aimee’s life and to remember and reflect on all the wonderful memories Aimee has given to both herself and her husband and their families. Bernie explained the event was very emotional and inspiring and the highlight for her was the “Candle of Hope Ceremony”. The emotion, love, concern and respect involved in this ceremony are unique and unforgettable.
Bernie has this year brought a team of Individuals together in memory of her daughter Aimee. The team consists of both family and friends, many of whom have been touched by cancer directly or indirectly at some stage in their lives.
The team “Aim high for Aimee” represents the opportunity to raise awareness about children’s cancer and provide information and support to families with children diagnosed with cancer and also to those families whose children and lost their brave battle. They aim to create a positive outlook for the children and their families whilst raising vital funds.
So, get your teddy bears ready for the first ever Teddy Bears picnic. Aim high for Aimee will hold a Teddy Bears Picnic and family fun day at the Finn Valley Centre, Stranorlar on Sunday the 4th May from 2.00pm – 5.00pm.
A great day’s fun is to be had by all the Teddy Bears, their little owners and all the family at this family fun event. Parents can dine alfresco on a blanket while the children and their Teddy Bears will be delighted with the entertainment and fun activities provided.
This fantastic event will be an array of colourful stands and attractions such as abouncy castle, face painting, Teddy Bears Story Hut, Arts and Crafts, Home Bakes and children’s characters to interact with the children to make this day a magical one. A DJ will be centre stage to provide entertainment for both young and old. To mark the occasion and the cause a balloon release will take place during the event and goodie bags will be provided to all the children.
The Teddy Bears picnic is a celebration of our children and their Teddy Bears and a great opportunity to bring our community together for a very worthy cause. The event is free but donations can be made on the day for Aim high for Aimee – Relay for Life.
