In a joint statement Inishowen Against Water Charges, Right2Water Inishowen and The Donegal Water Warriors have today strongly condemned reported actions towards an Irish Water employee in Moville yesterday, and have distanced themselves from anyone involved engaging in this behaviour.
The incident is said to have occurred in Moville yesterday evening.
“We’re very aware that Irish Water are well known for sending out false reports to the media to discredit protesters, but IF these allegations are true, then this is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the public in the the Inishowen area,” said Sinéad Stewart of Inishowen Against Water Charges and Right2Water Donegal.
“As people in Inishowen and Donegal well know, we have always, and will always, strongly condemned the intimidation of both peaceful protesters and Irish Water employees alike.
"We have made great strides towards the abolition of Irish Water and Water Charges. If this incident did occur, then this type of action is totally unacceptable and will only serve to hurt the Anti-Water Charges Movement. It is in no way helpful to us and we would ask everyone involved in protest, Irish Water workers and protesters alike to remain peaceful and respectful”.
Ms Stewart continued: “This is not the type of campaign we want to be involved with and we will have no association with those who resort to this type of behaviour. The reason why this movement has been so successful is because ordinary people like ourselves, the length and breadth of the country have been peacefully protesting against Irish Water and meter installations.”
Inishowen Against Water Charges, Right2Water Donegal and The Donegal Water Warriors reiterated that none of their members were present when this incident occurred.
