WITH less than four weeks to go until the third annual Bundoran Lifeboat Soapbox Race, excitement is heating up amongst the volunteer RNLI crew and participants in anticipation of another fun day out that will raise much needed funds for Bundoran RNLI.
The soapbox race, ball race and longboard skate competition will all take place on the Astoria Hill on Bank Holiday Sunday, June 1 and a bumper crowd is expected once again to spectate at the annual competition. Competitors are also expected from near and far with many of the skaters travelling from Dublin to participate.
Soapbox entries are expected from countrywide and no doubt last year’s winners from Dungannon, Co. Tyrone will be hoping to take the perpetual cup north of the border once again.
One of the more popular aspects of the day is the €1000 ball race whereby up to 3000 balls are dumped down the Astoria Hill after the soapbox race is finished with the owner of the first ball through the funnel at the bottom receiving a cash prize of €1000.
Online registration is now open at www.bundoranlifeboatsoapboxrace.com and balls for the ball race will be sold in outlets locally over the coming weeks.
