Independent Local Election Candidate Liam Whyte has called for Donegal Co. Council to include Ardara to Ardaghey and Portnoo to Ardara to be included as routes on the winter road gritting programme.

Whyte said that "Ardara to Donegal is one of the most used routes by commuters travelling to and from work as well as the road that people from the area use to access medical treatment after hours medical treatment at the Nowdoc.
People Travelling to Donegal Town face a much longer commute and add that to the current traffic works it could add up to 30 minutes to a 25 minute journey . "
Whyte also believes that Portnoo to Ardara road should be gritted for the duration of roadworks on the Maas to Glenties .
"Many who would normally travel in the Glenties/Letterkenny direction travel via Ardara to avoid long delays at the Maas crossroads and for the duration of the roadworks there I think it would be sensible to add this road also to the programme as it would alleviate traffic congestion at the roadworks also"
