The Asda Foundation has donated £500 to the Donegal Hospice through the supermarket’s Green Token Giving scheme.

Since opening in February 2003, the hospice has provided a palliative care service for terminally-ill patients from across county Donegal.

From in-house care across six bedrooms and two apartments located on-site, to the work of six homecare nurses, the organisation is a lifeline for local people and their families.

Isobel Doherty, administrator and fundraising co-ordinator at Donegal Hospice, said: “We would like to say a heartfelt thank-you to Asda Strabane shoppers for nominating the hospice to receive a donation.

"The funds will be used to purchase vital supplies, including medical equipment, to assist with the care and comfort of our patients.

“At Donegal Hospice, we support over 570 families every year when they receive the devastating diagnosis of a terminal illness.

"Alongside our palliative care service, we also provide emotional and practical help at both the hospice, and through our homecare nurses.”

Asda Strabane community champion, Matthew Tracey, added: “It is clear that every pound donated to the Donegal Hospice makes a real difference to terminally-ill patients and their relatives.

"I heard about the work of the organisation through my Asda Strabane colleague, Margaret McConnell, and I knew it would be a service which local shoppers would be keen to support through our Green Token Giving scheme.

“The Asda Foundation is helping a service which is there for people when they need it most, and I am proud to be a part of providing this support.”

The stg£500 is equivalent of €578.56 in today's exchange rate.
