Co. Donegal is set to be battered by storm force gales tonight as Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for coastal counties of the west and north.

The strongest winds are expected tonight.

Southwest winds are expected to increase from 50 to 60km/h to mean speeds of 70 km/h tonight with gusts of 110 to 120km/h for a time in exposed coastal areas.

This weather warning is in place until 9.00am Monday morning.

Heavy outbreaks of rain will continue tonight in parts but will clear to scattered showers overnight. Temperatures will fall to around 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
