More than 65 new jobs are expected to be created when a new 64-bed nursing home opens in Letterkenny in November.
Larissa Lodge Nursing Home, located in the Carnamuggagh/Mountain Top area will provide long-term, convalescence, respite and step-down care for older people.
The premises was originally built and used as a private nursing home for a number of years, and was then leased by the HSE.
It became vacant and was later acquired by the current owners who have over ten years experience in the sector.
Planning permission for a major renovation and extension to the property was granted back in 2015.
Larissa Lodge has been completely refurbished by local contractor Boyle Construction who expect to be finished on site in October.
“Over 18 months we expect the nursing home to create in excess of 65 jobs in total for Nurses, Care Assistants, Kitchen Staff, Housekeeping, Laundry, Administration and Maintenance,” a spokesman for the operators told the Letterkenny Post.
Meanwhile, up to 50 new jobs are also being created in the nursing care sector as the Hillcrest Nursing Home’s new facility “The Lodge” comes on stream in the Long Lane area of the town following a major investment.
