A man who was left fighting for his life after a serious assault in Bundoran at the weekend is now in a stable condition.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The latest news we have is that he is stable and improving.”

The incident occurred at around 1.00am on Sunday morning in the Tullan Strand Road area of the town. The victim aged 44 and from Ballyshannon was rushed to Sligo Regional Hospital.

The Garda spokesperson said no arrest had been made in relation to the assault. He confirmed that a man was arrested for public order offences in the vicinity shortly after the assault occurred.

“The victim is still in a serious condition at the moment,” the spokesperson said. “Gardaí will talk to the injured party once he is well enough to make a complaint and we will take it from there.”
