The weather has been playing havoc in recent days throughout Donegal due to persistent rain, with the biggest casualty in the south of the county the annual RNLI fundraiser and hugely popular Bundoran Soapbox Race.

Press Officer with Bundoran RNLI Shane Smyth said:

"Obviously we are very disappointed to have to cancel the event again as it is a major fundraiser for the lifeboat - however there are too many moving parts and a lot of people giving up their time to help us and we want them to be safe and comfortable and enjoy the day.

"We unfortunately couldn't guarantee this so we made the difficult decision to cancel. We would like to thank everyone for their messages of support and understanding. We will not rule out a rescheduling of the event at a later date but that is a decision that will be made in the coming weeks."
