Noel Daly, chairman of the West and Northwest hospital group has resigned following controversy over his links to a company commissioned to carry out a review of maternity services in the region.

Mr. Daly is a shareholder in a private healthcare firm that carried out a survey of maternity services for the group, and it is understood that Sinn Féin deemed this to reflect a privatisation agenda.

A statement from Minister for Health James Reilly confirmed the news. In the statement Minister Reilly said Mr. Daly chose to step down because he did not want his reputation nor the reputation of the hospital group to be compromised.
