A recommendation to shut down Bus Éireann's Expressway operation is likely to have a major effect on the people of Donegal.

Bus Éireann currently operates a daily route from Letterkenny to Dublin which is Donegal's busiest link with the capital.

The 32 bus route runs nine times daily, and closure would prove a major setback for connections with Dublin.

The full closure of Expressway was recommended in a report by consultancy firm Grant Thorton and would result in the loss of more than 500 jobs and the closure of 10 bus depots in a bid to save Bus Éireann from insolvency.

Bus Éireann contributed €33 million to the economy in the North West in 2016, with 255 employees.
