Ballyshannon man Barry Sweeny (FG) is a step closer to being elected to serve the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal.
He received 485 transfers from Billy Grimes (Ind) to give him a total of 1,917 after the thirteenth count. With two seats already filled by Niamh Kennedy and Noel Jordan, Sweeny now has the hightest number of votes of all the remaining candidates.
The quota is 2,043.
Michael McMahon has 1749 votes; Micheal Naughton (FF) has 1,742; John McNulty is on 1,463; and Tom Conaghan has 1,435 votes.
Outgoing Cllr Seamus Maguire who came to national attention with his strong stance against single-use election posters was eliminated after the thirteenth count. He had secured 1,194 votes.
Maguire's votes are now being distributed.
The result of the fourteenth count is due shortly.
