After topping the poll, Niamh Kennedy is the first councillor to secure a seat in the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal.

This is the second consecutive term that Kennedy topped the poll.

The Killybegs candidate secured 279 transfers from John Boyle (FF) in the eleventh count. She needed only 12 to reach the quota of 2,043. Her surplus of 279 votes is now being distributed in the twelfth count.

Noel Jordan (SF) needs just 10 votes to reach the quota.

He is followed by Micheal Naughton (FF) on 1,648; Michael McMahon (SF) on 1,474; Barry Sweeney (FG) on 1,424; John McNulty (FG) on 1,393; Tom Conaghan (Ind) on 1,373; Seamus Maguire (Ind) on 1,163; and Billy Grimes on 1,067.

The result of the twelfth count is expected in the next few minutes.
