Counting of local election ballots is in full swing in the Bosco Centre in Donegal Town.

With all boxes open, updated tally figures show Noel Jordan (SF) set to the top the poll. But he is followed closely by Niamh Kennedy (Ind) with neither likely to be close to the quota on the first count.

Micheal Naughton has dropped from third to fourth behind Barry Sweeney (FG), followed by John McNulty (FG) in fifth and Tom Conaghan (Ind) in sixth.

The result of the first count is expected later this afternoon.
