A Donegal man who could barely get over his shock of getting selected to appear on Winning Streak has won himself a cool €45,000 on the National Lottery Winning Streak TV game show on RTÉ One last Saturday.
Gerard Muldoon from Killygordon, Donegal scooped €20,000 in cash on a night which saw the highest winnings from Winning Streak in the season so far (€307,000). Before that, he won an electric car worth €25,000 bringing his winnings to the value of €45,000.
Gerard commented that the news of getting on the show was “like a tidal wave crashing over him” and he described the amazing feeling as he watched his name being drawn from the Winning Streak drum by show presenters Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy two weeks ago.
A GAA fan, Gerard had just switched over from watching the Dublin versus Kerry football match in time to watch Winning Streak – a Saturday evening ritual for him. “As much as you think you can be ready to hear your name called out, you can’t actually prepare for it,” the delighted Donegal man quipped!
Gerard is also a huge music fan he names Queen, ELO, Rod Stewart and the Eagles amongst a long list of his favourites. Gerard says there is nothing better than relaxing by putting on music.
Also a massive GAA supporter, he follows Donegal in football and is a big fan of his two local GAA clubs Setanta Hurling Club and Red Hughs GAA football club. He is also likes soccer and is happy that local Donegal club Finn Harps have been promoted to the League of Ireland premier division this season.
The National Lottery game show, co-presented by Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy, features some perennial favourite games as well but also brand new games including Play or Pay, Roll for Riches, WinFall and Electric Dream – where one player will win an electric car worth €25,000.
A brand new-look Winning Streak scratch card is available in the 5,900 National Lottery retailers all over the country, where as well as the chance to appear on the Winning Streak TV game show if you get three stars, players will also be in with a chance to win some great cash prizes up to €5,000. The odds for those who purchase a Winning Streak to win is 1 in 1.76 to win a cash or three star prize.
Players can also send their scratch card stubs into the National Lottery where each week, on the show, one lucky player is drawn as the winner of a Luxury Cruise for two valued at €5,000. The winner of this week’s cruise is Stephen Carters from Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.
Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games go back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts and heritage. In total, more than €5.4 billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 31 years ago. In 2018 alone, the National Lottery raised over €227 million for such good causes.
