A Donegal rally crew have been given special recognition this evening.
A Civic Reception took place in the Council Chamber, County House, Lifford, in honour of Manus Kelly and Donall Barrett in recognition of their achievements in winning the Donegal International Rally in 2016 and 2017 together with the National Rally Championship in 2015.
They become the first Donegal crew in the history of the event to win back to back Donegal titles.
A civic reception is the highest honour that a local authority can bestow on an person or group.
Among those who paid tribute to the rally crew were the Cathaoirleach of County of Donegal, Cllr. Gerry Mc Monagle, and Chief Executive, Mr Seamus Neely.
Tributes were also paid by representatives of the various political groupings on the council.
A special presentation was made to the recipients by Cathaoirleach Cllr. Gerry Mc Monagle
Both Manus Kelly and Donall Barrett said that it was a great honour for them and their families.
You can see Kelly and Barrett in action in this clip below.
The Donegal International Rally has been an unqualilfied success and is the biggest single sporting event in the north-west every year.
It provides a big economic stimulus to the county and there is also a considerable knock-on effect.
