A stunning modern new school in Donegal is in the running for a major award.

Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny has been shortlisted for the Irish Architecture Awards 2014.

Designed by architects McGarry Ní Éanaigh, the school's striking appearance and intelligent use of light have drawn much favourable comment.

Almost 50 buildings have been shortlisted for the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland.,

Other buildings on the shortlist include the renovated Clery's Department Store in Dublin, a pop-up bar in Limerick, and a horse caravan base in Wicklow.

Coláiste Ailigh is an Irish language secondary school which was officially opened in May by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
