Donegal has the second highest unemployment rate in the state, according to the Census 2016 figures.

The figures, released today by the Central Statistics Office, show the unemployment for Donegal stands at 18%, second only to Longford at 19.6%.

The figures also show that Donegal has a total of six unemployment 'blackspots' with an average unemployment rate of 30%.

Despite being having the second highest unemployment rate in the country in 2016, unemployment in Donegal fell a massive 26.2% from 2011.

Dún Laoghaire and Rathdown had the lowest rate in the state, standing at just 7.4%.
