Donegal South-West TD Thomas Pringle has been invited to speak at the European Congress of Local Governments conference in the Polish city of Kraków today.

The Congress will provide a platform for politicians, NGOs and businesses to exchange their views on issues around EU policies. This year the Congress will focus on three themes including Economy, Environment and Society.

“As part of the three themes, I’ve been asked to participate on the panel ‘Development of Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprises.’ They approached me due to my previous work in the sector but I will also be bringing my experience since becoming a TD’,” Deputy Pringle said.

The independent TD said he will use this opportunity to discuss issues around water supply here at home in Ireland including the establishment of Irish Water, charging for access of water and the potential privatisation of our natural resource in the future.

“I believe this will be a good opportunity to have the concerns of our local communities heard on a European platform. I hope that the issues I raise will stimulate an interesting debate around water, the sale of water and the privatisation of our supply,” he added.
