There has been a slight drop overnight in the waiting list for beds at Letterkenny University Hospital.

But Donegal Fianna Fáil TD Charlie McConalogue is campaigning to put an end to the waiting lists.

He will this afternoon call on the Health Minister Simon Harris to ensure funding of €1.8m is provides for the opening of a 20-bed, short-stay ward at Letterkenny University Hospital.

The matter will be discussed n the Dail during Topical Issues, which are due to begin at 5.17pm.

His calls to the minister follow today's latest figures from the Irish Nurses' and Midwives' Organistion (INMO) that show there are 23 people waiting for a bed in LUH.

The figures yesterday was 25.

The INMO claims in its daily Trolley and Ward Watch report that there are 10 people on trolleys in LUH and 13 in wards.

It claims there are 428 people waiting for a bed in hospitals around the country.

University Hospital Limerick's figure of 36 is the highest nationally, according to the INMO.
