Buncrana Tidy Towns was delighted to present iCare with a cheque for €800 raised from the proceeds of groups annual apple stall on the Main Street, Buncrana.

Buncrana Tidy Towns Spokesperson Sinéad Ní Bhroin said:

“Each year Buncrana Tidy Towns volunteers pick and collect local apples that we sell during the months of September and October at our stall on the Main Street. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Dolores Barber who anchored the stall each Saturday whatever the weather, and ensured we had plenty of apples to sell each week.

“We are also grateful for the fantastic homemade jars of apple chutney and jam donated by a wonderful and modest local woman for us to sell on to raise much needed funds for iCare.

“Our apple stall has now become a staple of Buncrana Tidy Towns annual work schedule. Local households contribute their apples and in turn we sell them on for the purpose of donating all proceeds to a local charity.

“Until recently iCare, a local organisation providing desperately needed supports and services for children with autism and their families across Inishowen and beyond, relied completely on voluntary donations. iCare secured HSE funding in 2018 but the monies awarded are interim in nature and fall short of the services real running costs.

“We are in awe of the Mums and Dads whose dedication and determination has kept the doors of iCare open over the last decade. Their accomplishments are heroic and collectively as a community we have all benefited from the services they provide. The success of our apple stall is evidence of the high regard for iCare throughout the town. Many thanks to everybody who supported us in our endeavour.”
