A man appeared before Letterkenny District Court on Thursday charged with holding a mobile phone while driving.

The incident occurred at Rashedoge, Letterkenny on April 12, 2014. The court heard that Lee Gildea (34) of Filey House, Listillon, Letterkenny thought he had switched off his phone. It rang and he thought it was work so he took the call, during which he was detected by Gardaí.

Solicitor Kieran Dillon told the court: “He works in a local butcher shop and helps his father on the farm. He is a good man.”

Judge Paul Kelly asked if the defendant had ever heard of Bluetooth before imposing a fine of €100.
