Major €2.4m works to be carried out as part of Rebuilding Ireland social housing scheme

Donegal TD Joe McHugh has announced a €2.4million investment in former National Asset Management Agency (Nama) properties in Ramelton under the Rebuilding Ireland programme.

He revealed that the "scheme at Radharc an Chuain will include 20 new homes made up of 15 three-bedroom houses and five four-bedroom houses".

Mr McHugh said: “The houses will become quality homes for families and other people in need in Co Donegal.

“A €2.4million euro spend on social housing in the community of Ramelton is a significant investment but also excellent value for money when it can help to open the doors of 20 new homes.

“This Government is acutely aware of the need to do more on the housing front but every small scale investment of this nature is making a crucial difference.

“I’m in Ramelton regularly and I look forward to seeing these homes being lived in and to hearing about the new life that it will breathe into the local community.”

The minister's spokesman added: "The properties which will complete the Radharc an Chuain estate in Ramelton will be used by Donegal County Council for social housing.

"They were formerly part of loan books purchased by the National Asset Management Agency (Nama).

"The 20 houses were at various stages of development but have been weather proofed for several years.

"Substantial improvement works are now being planned and it is hoped the properties will be ready to accommodate families by early next year."

The redevelopment will be carried out through the Local Authority Construction Programme under Rebuilding Ireland.
