Former Mayor of Letterkenny Sinn Féin's Cllr. Gerry McMonagle is under some pressure to hold his seat, according to early tally figures for the Letterkenny Electoral Area.

With about 25% of the boxes opened, tally figures suggest he is running at around 6%.

Independent Kevin Bradley is polling well and looks to be in contention for a seat and Mary T Sweeney of Aontú could well be in the mix for the final seat.

Cllr. Ciaran Brogan (FF) is set to top the poll, as expected.

Independents Cllr. Michael McBride and Kevin Bradley are polling well.

Fianna Fail is hoping to win three of the seven seats and both Manus Kelly and Donal Coyle will certainly be in the mix.

Fine Gael out-going councillor Jimmy Kavanagh is on course to retain his seat and his running-mate Bernie Moran could be in contention for a seat.

Adrian Glackin of Sinn Féin should hold his seat.

The battle for the final three seats could be extremely close.

Mary T. Sweeney of Aontú is also in with a chance while Independent Thioba Ahmed has polled ahead of other Independents Finnian O'Donnell and Cathal McGlynn.
