Gardaí have issued an appeal for information as they search for eight boat engines stolen from anglers.

The robbery happened at Lough Eske Angling Centre outside of Donegal Town. It is understood that the thieves cut through chains to steal the engines, which are worth a total of more than €16,000.

Despite there being guest at two nearby hotels the thieves managed to escape with the boat engines.

No images were captured on a CCTV attached to the centre, a Garda source confirmed.

According to reports, members of Eske Angling Association complained about the night-light attached to the CCTV on an adjoining office used by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) hasn’t worked in over a year, and that there were cobwebs over the CCTV.

The IFI told anglers that it provided security measures at the centre but the CCTV images were not sufficient enough to identify the thieves, who appeared to access the jetty from the lake last Sunday night.
