Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness and Maria Walsh are set to be elected in the Ireland Midlands Northwest constituency (which takes in Donegal) along with Sinn Féin's Matt Carthy and Independent Luke 'Ming' Flanagan, out-going MEP Marian Harkin has predicted.

But the Green Party candidate Saoirse McHugh now looks set to lose out.

Following the RTE/TG4 Exit poll, it was widely suggested that she would win a seat, based on a 12% support.

However, the margin of error in such polls is plus or minus 4% and her first count vote was actually lower than the poll suggested and she even slipped below Peter Casey.

Four people will be elected.
