The development of “greenways” in Donegal is now a key priority area for Donegal Co. Council and one possibility is to development them on a cross-border basis.
Greenways are largely level wide pathways suitable for cycling and walking and are often built on the trackbeds of disused railway lines.
Cllr. Gary Doherty (SF) has called on Donegal Co. Council to “actively consult with all stakeholders and funding bodies” in relation to plans for a Greenway to run along the old railway track bed in the Finn Valley, from Strabane towards Donegal Town through the Barnesmore Gap.
