Independent Cllr. for the Stranorlar Electoral Area Frank McBrearty has urged voters to use their vote in this Friday’s Local and European Elections as an important precursor for change.

With the elections taking place tomorrow the Raphoe based Councillor has stressed how important it is for voters to be actively involved in the democratic process, saying that this Friday’s elections give the people the opportunity to send a clear message to the country’s main political parties that they are both angry and dissatisfied with the policies of the current administration, and that they demand an alternative to party politics.

He said: “I am urging everyone to get out and vote in Friday’s elections because in doing so, the will of the people can be heard and made known to those in power.

“The people of this country, especially up here in Donegal, have suffered as a result of the policies and failures of the current, and the previous, administration; I am urging all voters to use their vote wisely in these elections and to be an advocate for the change which we as a nation both want and desrve.”

Referring to recent opinion polls, the Ind. Cllr. believes they show that there is an ‘appetite for a change of direction’ and that people are feeling ‘incredibly let down’ by the main political parties.

He concluded: “By choosing to vote for candidates and not parties, a new and better political reality can be made possible.”

Voting in the 2014 Local and European Elections will take place tomorrow, Friday, from 7.00am and 10.00pm.
