A Buncrana woman is hoping to spread a little cheer this week by offering free hugs to all outside the town’s post office on Friday “from 10.30am till late.”
Juliette Emery said has invited others to join her in her blues-busting mission to hug as many people as possible. The 44-year-old said: “I decided to do the free hugs campaign to try and make a difference to even one person to show caring to another human being.
“All are welcome to join me as long as they are willing to hug everybody who wants hugged. Life is too short. I heard this week how hugging helps depression. Maybe someone might not have been hugged for years.”
Juliette added she hoped the idea would catch on: “I hope by doing this that it will spread, so people go and hug other people. If I hug my family, my friends, my neighbours and the people in my community, my cities, my neighbouring countries – if others join me imagine where it could go.”
The Buncrana woman said she had asked others to join her, but so far only two people have said they will, Clarie McLaughlin and Amanda Murphy. She added her daughter Mia May had also been very supportive, encouraging her to draw a smiley face and heart on her t-shirt. Juliette will be getting more t-shirts printed by Adam Porter.
Anyone who wants to join her on her quest can call along to the post office in Buncrana this Friday.
